Undocumented – Latino Day Laborers

Between 11 million and 20 million undocumented or illegal immigrants are estimated to be living in the United States. The nature of illegal immigration makes the exact number unknown. Latino day laborers are a ubiquitous sight in Brooklyn, New York. Along with frequenting designated pick-up spots, they wait at U-Haul truck depots and the parking lots of big-box hardware stores like Home Depot or Lowes hoping to secure a couple of hours of construction or moving work. While most have no papers, they are also undocumented in terms of cultural representation. In this series, I attempt to document these workers, to make their presence felt, to give dignity to a group of individuals who are often misunderstood or scorned and yet play a crucial role in the the daily functioning of the cities we live in.
